Diversity And Inclusion
At JCP Solicitors, we believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to ensure we have a vibrant, innovative, and successful workplace. We are committed to creating an environment where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered. Our Diversity and Inclusion Group plays a pivotal role in driving these efforts, ensuring that we make positive changes.
JCP’s Diversity and Inclusion Group
Our Diversity and Inclusion Group is a dedicated team focused on promoting a culture of equity, respect, and opportunity. Our Group comprises Directors, Associate Solicitors, and support roles from a variety of backgrounds, all working together in a safe space to celebrate and promote diversity and inclusion in our business.
Key Initiatives
Our Diversity and Inclusion Group meet on a quarterly basis to look at key initiatives designed to enhance our culture and promote inclusivity. At every meeting, we pay particular focus on the following diversity strands:
- Disability
- Gender
- Age
- LGBTQ+
- Race and Ethnicity
- Religion and Culture
- Social Mobility
- Neurodiversity
- Welsh language
We are very proud that since the Group was established in 2022, the business has:
- Purchased prayer mats for clients and #TeamJCP use
- Celebrated additional cultural and religious holidays in our offices including Chinese New Year, Korean New Year and Diwali, learning more about these celebrations from team members
- Offered travel expenses to those who request it for Work Experience to help promote social mobility
- Launched our Legal Apprenticeship scheme offering a more accessible route to qualification
- Regularly benchmarked (with positive results) whether team members feel they can be their authentic selves in the workplace
- Committed to accommodate any accessibility requirements wherever possible for team members or clients attending our offices, this could include breastfeeding rooms or prayer facilities, for example
- Celebrated pride month every June by changing the colour of our logo on social media and sharing blog content relevant to the LGBTQ+ community
- Given all team members the option of adding their pronouns to their email disclaimers on internal and external emails and encouraged this on their LinkedIn profiles
- Used positive statements on our career adverts to encourage minority groups to apply
- Provided training to Managers and Supervisors on the benefits of having a Neurodiverse workforce
- Recognised national days for “Show Racism The Red Card” and “Time to Talk” and similar
- Created a field for the title Mx in our client creation forms and practice management system
- Continued with the formal accreditation of our Welsh Language Offering/Y Cynnig Cymraeg from the Welsh Language Commissioner
- Created dementia-friendly signs, marketing leaflets and business cards
We know that this is just the start of our journey, and we have a long way to go. We understand the importance of accountability in our diversity and inclusion efforts. The minutes for each of our Group meetings highlight our achievements, challenges, and future plans for the rest of the business.
By focusing on diversity and inclusion, we are not only enhancing our culture but also improving our ability to serve our clients with creativity, empathy, and a broad range of perspectives.
