Hi, I am Claire, and I am a Legal Advisor in our specialist Court of Protection team. I am responsible for preparing and submitting applications to the Court of Protection to appoint lay deputies, who will then be able to make important decisions on behalf of a loved one who has lost the capacity to manage their own property and financial affairs. I am passionate about helping clients, with what is often a difficult and daunting time in their lives.
I graduated with a Joint Honours Degree in English and Psychology from Swansea University in 2004. Following this I then went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2005 and the Legal Practice Course in 2006, also at Swansea University. In 2006 I joined Bridgend County Borough Council as a Legal Assistant in the Commercial Property team and then joined Howells Solicitors in 2007 as a Legal Assistant in their Residential Conveyancing team. I joined Ilex as a Graduate Member in 2008, qualifying as a Fellow with Ilex in September 2013. I then joined JCP in September 2013 as a Legal Executive in the Residential Conveyancing team where I helped clients buy, sell and remortgage properties for over 10 years.
With 17 years of previous experience in dealing with property law, I joined the Court of Protection team in February 2024 and now provide invaluable advice and guidance to lay deputies. I understand that becoming a lay deputy is a significant undertaking, and I am not only on hand to provide support from the initial application, but throughout the appointment.
In my spare time, I enjoy long beach walks with my dog, holidays abroad and meeting up with friends and family.
