NEWSFLASH - Deferral of the Implementation of the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016

As landlords know, the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 (“the Act”) was due to be brought into force on 15 July 2022. However, yesterday (30 May 2022) the Welsh Government announced that they have decided to postpone the implementation of the Act until 1 December 2022.
The deferral of the Act’s implementation is intended to allow more time for landlords to make the necessary preparations to enable them to comply with the requirements of the Act. In particular, the Welsh Government has said that it wants to alleviate the pressures on those landlords responsible for a large number of properties, given that the Act will require new occupation contracts and fitness standards for all properties in Wales.
The introduction of the Act represents the biggest change to housing law in Wales for decades, abolishing many of the current forms of tenancy.
