Claire Edwards
Claire is a Legal Advisor in our specialist Court of Protection team. Claire is responsible for preparing and submitting applications to the Court of Protection to appoint lay deputies, who will then be able to make important decisions on behalf of a loved one who has lost the capacity to manage their own property and financial affairs. Claire is passionate about helping clients, with what is often a difficult and daunting time in their lives.
Claire graduated with a Joint Honors Degree in English and Psychology from Swansea University in 2004. Following this Claire then went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2005 and the Legal Practice Course in 2006, also at Swansea University. In 2006 she joined Bridgend County Borough Council as a Legal Assistant in the Commercial Property team and then joined Howells Solicitors in 2007 as a Legal Assistant in Residential Conveyancing team. Claire joined Ilex as a Graduate Member in 2008, qualifying as a Fellow with Ilex in September 2013. Claire then joined JCP in September 2013 as a Legal Executive in the Residential Conveyancing Department where she helped clients buy, sell and remortgage properties for over 10 years.
With 17 years previous experience in dealing with property law, Claire joined the Court of Protection team in February 2024 and provides invaluable advice and guidance to lay deputies. Claire understands that becoming a lay deputy is a significant undertaking, and she is not only on hand to provide support from the initial application, but throughout the appointment.
In her spare time, Claire enjoys long beach walks with her dog, holidays abroad and meeting up with friends and family.
