ID Verification, Swears and Declarations

At JCP Solicitors, we offer a range of pre-arranged services to assist with identity verification, swearing oaths and statutory declaration ensuring both compliance and convenience. Whether you need a basic verification or more comprehensive certification for regulatory or legal purposes, our qualified solicitors and conveyancers are here to help. For all the below we request that you make an appointment as we cannot offer a walk in service.

Standard Swears (Oaths)

If a document is required at court, it typically must be sworn before a Solicitor or a Commissioner for Oaths. This involves holding a bible or other holy text whilst making the swear.  If the statement is later found to be false, it could lead to penalties such as a fine for perjury or even imprisonment! For those who are not religious, there is the option to affirm instead of swearing an oath. Affirmations are formal declarations that the statement is true and carry the same legal weight as an oath.

The standard fee for this service is £5, payable in cash to the Solicitor, with an additional charge of £2 for each annex. While £5 may not seem like much nowadays, it might just cover their next takeaway coffee!

Statutory Declaration

These are similar to oaths but do not need to be sworn on a holy text. Usually this will be a legal document that you cannot have signed and witnessed by your own solicitor or a member of their practice.

We are usually able to make statutory declaration appointments at most of our offices but apologise that we do not offer this as a walk in service.

Again, the standard fee is £5 in cash (£2 for each annex) paid directly to the solicitor who signs and witnesses your document.
