JCP Helps Pharmacy Expansion Run Smoothly

JCP Solicitors has acted for family firm Davies Chemist Ltd with their expansion and move to a £5.7million state of the art new development in Briton Ferry.
The new pharmacy is part of a pattern of continued growth for the company, which started life with a small chemist shop in Abercrave in the early 1950s and now owns seven branches throughout South Wales.
Managing Director Rob Davies said: “We are delighted to be part of this impressive new health centre in Baglan Energy Park and I am grateful to JCP Solicitors for handling the lease agreement for us – it proved to be a complex piece of work and it was a lengthy process but, as ever, JCP made sure things ran smoothly.”
Davies Chemist Ltd has taken up 1,500 square feet of a 6,000 square feet office complex, with the £5.7m development encompassing a new health centre, office space and a GP surgery serving 12,500 patients.
Principality Commercial, the commercial arm of Principality Building Society, teamed up with developers Deryn Properties (Development) Ltd and Neath Port Talbot council to develop the site.
Chris Davies, JCP’s Head of Property Services, said: “Davies Chemist Ltd are valued JCP clients and I am pleased to see them continue their steady growth in South Wales.
“This transaction was a challenging one since it involved multiple agencies – the local authority, the Welsh Government, the developer and his building team - so my role included negotiating and agreeing the lease, the professional warranties, the licence for fit-out works and a new long-term occupational lease.
“This development is set to have many long-term benefits, not least for the patients who will use the impressive new facilities, but also for the area itself which will, I’m sure, enjoy long-term economic benefits from the development of Baglan Energy Park.”
