Ask The Legal Expert - Can We Get a Will Processed During the Covid-19 Crisis?

"We have just welcomed a grandchild into the family and we are keen to make Wills, to ensure everyone is taken care of if something were to happen. Will a Will get processed now, in light of the current crisis?"
It is important to make a Will, particularly when your family or financial circumstances change – on that note, congratulations on the birth of your grandchild!
Around 60 percent of people pass away without having a proper Will in place and this can cause unnecessary hardship for those they leave behind.
We recommend to our clients that they review their Will every three years, in order to keep them relevant, and any major changes in your circumstances should prompt you to do this too.
As you say, we are living through unusual times, and all of our routines have been temporarily upended. However, during this outbreak our Will service remains uninterrupted. We are experiencing a number of enquiries like yours at the moment. The majority of our Will instructions can be taken by telephone appointment, after which we will email or post you a draft Will for your consideration. Once you are happy with the draft document, we will send you a final through the post or by email where you can print this at home. You must sign this Will in the presence of two independent witnesses and we will provide you with clear guidance to ensure your Will is signed correctly.
You and your witnesses must see each other signing, but they do not need to be close to you or even in the same room as you, as long as you can all clearly see each other sign. For example, you could do this through a glass window.
