JCP's Residential Property Team Is the Ideal Home for Rhian

Meet Rhian Jervis, a Legal Executive in Residential Property for JCP Solicitors. Based at the law firm’s Swansea office, Rhian is a key point of contact for many local estate agents. Her experience and her warm, approachable manner has made her an invaluable member of this ever-developing team.
How long have you worked for JCP Solicitors?
I joined JCP Solicitors in 2004 after graduating in law from Swansea University. Mine has been an unusual path in that I had my first daughter while I was at university, during the summer break, and I returned to for the final year of my degree course when she was eight weeks old. Then I joined JCP as a remortgage paralegal, working my way up to the conveyancing team. JCP then offered to fund my Legal Executive Course which I studied from home while working full time for JCP and bringing up my first and a newly arrived second child. I really fell back on my strong organisational skills during this time!
That is a great example to set for your daughters, about the importance of sticking to your goals, isn’t it?
Yes. It was hard work and I’m lucky to have had strong support from JCP and from my family. But as a result, my daughter's don’t get away with much!
What is the most satisfying aspect of working in Residential Property?
The very regular client contact. Our team has strong relationships with local estate agents, which is crucial to the work we do. Also, when you deal directly with the public at a time when they are buying or selling a property, you are interacting with them at what can be a stressful, and often an emotional, time in their lives. It is important to be approachable, reliable, and consistent and to do all you can to help thing go as smoothly as they can.
Is this an exciting time to be in the property team at JCP? I know the team is expanding?
Yes. JCP has always been committed to steady, sustainable growth and this is a time of expansion for the company. Our 2017 merger with Glamorgan Law saw JCP Solicitors become the largest law firm with offices solely in Wales.
Here in Residential Property, our focus is very much upon strengthening our ties with our clients and with Estate Agents locally and upon offering the best possible expertise and service. One of the ways we can do this is to ensure our professionals are actively encouraged and supported to build upon their skills and experience and to always be progressing in their field of expertise.
At the moment I’m helping to train, mentor and develop colleagues to take on more responsibilities to help progress their own careers. It is really rewarding to see their achievements.
What do you do in your spare time?
We have a camper van so we tend to hit the road at the weekend as a family – and with our dog - a la-shon called Steve. Some of our favourite spots are in West Wales, particularly Broad Haven, in lovely Pembrokeshire.
