JCP Solicitors Backs Headway's Protect Your Melon Campaign

As people in Wales continue to embrace two wheels instead of four, post-lockdown, here at JCP we are pleased to put our weight behind an important campaign by Headway to encourage cyclist to wear helmets.
Cycling is enjoying a real moment across Wales, with figures for Swansea alone showing cyclist numbers triple in recent month along the city’s most popular routes.
Head injury charity, Headway, has just released a timely campaign to remind cyclists how important it is to buckle on a cycle helmet whenever they cycle, to help prevent potentially life-changing injuries.
Mei Li is a Director and Head of Catastrophic Injury at JCP Solicitors, she is also listed in the Headway Solicitors directory. Mei says: “I am very pleased that so many people have rediscovered their love of cycling during the pandemic. Lockdown has been challenging, but many of us have leaned upon the pleasure of being outside every day, and taking regular exercise in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain. I hope people continue to enjoy cycling as we return to our old routines. It is very important that we do all we can to stay safe on our roads and cycle paths. Here at JCP Solicitors, we specialise in catastrophic injury and see clients every year whose lives and their families lives, have been greatly affected by injuries sustained while cycling. Getting out on your bike is one of the healthiest and enjoyable things you can do, but it is important to be aware of the risks involved and to minimise them as much as possible.”
Headway relaunched its campaign to encourage people to wear cycle helmets after the Government announced plans to add thousands of miles of new bike lanes in England.
In Wales, more than £38m has been pledged to improve cycling and walking networks as part of attempts to permanently change the nation’s travel habits in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mei adds: “Across the UK someone is admitted to hospital with a head injury every three minutes and the effects of which can be devastating and life-long. However, there is support out there for people who have been involved in cycling accidents. Headway does great work to help people long-term with brain injuries. And their support extends to the families of the injured too. And, of course, JCP’s Catastrophic Injury Team is on hand for tailored legal advice.”
