Consultations Affecting The Private Rented Sector: An Update

The Welsh Government has published two consultations which seeks views on the Regulation of Private Housing and a Code of Practice for landlords and agents in connection with the private rented sector. The consultation closes on 7 May 2015.
For those involved in the private rented residential sector in Wales these consultations will be relevant. It is clear the Welsh Government intends to exercise more control over the private rented sector and impose increased burdens and responsibilities on landlords. The aim is no doubt to improve the standard of rented property for tenants but will this have the effect of prohibiting investment thus reducing the supply of rented property and potentially increasing rents.
