European sportswear manufacturer, Macron SpA is fully embedded as the official apparel partner of World Rugby, after announcing a deal that will see the Italian brand supply performance wear for the Emirates Match Officials for international tournaments and fixtures, including the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2022, Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 and the much anticipated Rugby World Cup in France in 2023. And JCP Solicitors, one of the best-known law firms in South Wales was thrilled to work with Macron once again on the legal side of the deal.
The agreement was announced ahead of the Malaga round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2022, where the new sevens match officials’ kit will make its debut. The 15s kit will be revealed ahead of the men’s and women’s Six Nations. As part of the deal, Macron became the official sports apparel supplier of Rugby World Cup 2021 and 2023, kitting out tournament officials, with a range of performance and leisurewear which will also be available for fans to buy.
JCP’s Sports Law team has acted for Macron for a number of years, advising them on this latest agreement, as well as Macron’s recent long-term Technical Kit Supply and Retail Services agreement with the Welsh Rugby Union.
JCP’s Sports Law specialist, Andrew Meech, said: “We are delighted to have advised Macron on another key agreement in its impressive and growing portfolio. Macron has a long history of representing top-level sports teams and unions – its name is synonymous with the best of rugby now - and we are proud to advise them on these exciting partnerships across sports in the UK and beyond. Wales is, of course, a rugby nation and so it is pleasing to me personally to be able to play a small part in World Rugby and in how it is presented and perceived across the globe.”
Macron’s Sports Marketing Director, Roberto Casolari said: “This is another prestigious deal for Macron, to supply quality sportswear for World Rugby at this crucial time. Macron has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with JCP Solicitors and I am grateful to Andrew at JCP for his keen legal expertise, which was integral in finalising the legal documentation between Macron and World Rugby. These agreements typically involve complex retail and supply arrangements and the commercial rights that are associated with them, and JCP Solicitors has been instrumental in delivering this agreement successfully. We look forward to continuing our strong working relationship with JCP long into the future.”
Macron supplies sporting apparel to more than forty professional clubs across the continent including, the Welsh Rugby Union, Scottish Rugby Union, Bath Rugby, Lazio, OGC Nice and Real Sociedad.
The sports law team at JCP Solicitors has been ranked at the top by leading industry bibles, Chambers and the Legal 500. The team acts on the behalf of many sports clubs, sporting individuals and other related companies from both professional and amateur organisations.
