Legal Assistant - Court of Protection - Swansea
Due to the expansion of our busy Court of Protection team, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to embark on a career as a Legal Assistant. The successful candidate will provide support to the professional deputies to assist our clients by managing their property and financial affairs whilst helping them with their day-to-day needs.
No experience is required as full training will be provided but as all the team’s clients are vulnerable and most have suffered traumatic brain injuries or have neurological conditionals caused by disease or illness, we are looking for someone with a patient and compassionate nature who is comfortable with dealing with the varying needs of those clients. the nature of this role would ideally suit a confident and organised individual who has a ‘can do’ attitude and enjoys interacting with people.
The role is extremely varied and will involve such tasks as:
- Assisting with applications to the COP to appoint both lay and professional deputies
- General financial administration including arranging payment of invoices and utility bills
- Liaising with families, care professionals, case managers and financial advisors
- Ensuring clients receive all state benefits available to them
- Assisting with the sale and purchase of properties
- Arranging repairs/adaptations to properties
- Organising and renewing insurance policies
- Financial reconciliation of bank accounts including the preparation of cash flows
- Purchasing everyday items including specialist equipment
- Providing general assistance to directors, solicitors and legal advisors in the team
The successful candidate should have:
- Excellent time management, administration and organisation skills
- An understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the OPG Deputy Standards would be preferred, but this is not essential as full training can be provided
- Competent in drafting legal documents
- The ability to handle a busy and varying workload
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish good working relations
- The ability to work at a professional level
- A commitment to team goals and personal development
