JCP Solicitors Sponsors 200th Critical Bleed Control Kit
Regional law firm JCP Solicitors has presented Ysgol Cwm Brombil with the 200th critical bleed control kit to be installed in West Glamorgan, after the firm sponsored critical bleed provision for all secondary schools in Neath and Port Talbot.
The initiative to supply critical bleed control kits to schools across south Wales comes from the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan, Melanie James JP, aiming to improve outcomes for young people in emergency situations.
Alongside his role at JCP Solicitors, Director and Joint Head of Commercial Litigation, Andrew Meech supports the High Sheriff in the role of Under Sheriff of West Glamorgan. Andrew makes a meaningful contribution to High Sheriff, ensuring continuity of the role, and advice on the protocols of Court and official ceremonies.
Thanks to the work of the High Sheriff, Critical Bleed Control (CBC) kits are being rolled out to schools and community groups across the region, providing military-grade equipment such as gloves, gauzes, dressings, a tourniquet, and instructions to call 999 before applying the contents. The kits are designed to be easy to use by members of the public, allowing the user to offer immediate assistance for someone experiencing a catastrophic bleed before emergency services arrive.
The 200th kit was delivered in December 2024 by the High Sheriff and the Under Sheriff, Andrew Meech, who visited Ysgol Cwm Brombil to present the CBC in-person.
Andrew Meech said: “Until now, there have only been a handful of critical bleed control kits publicly accessible in Wales, compared to over 20,000 bleed control kits available across England.
“This project brings CBC kits into secondary schools across the region, ensuring that there is better immediate support for anyone involved in an emergency such as glass injuries, dog bites, road traffic accidents, knife wounds, and for those with blood-clotting disorders.
JCP Solicitors is delighted to have presented the 200th kit to Ysgol Cwm Brombil, which serves communities across Coed Hirwaun, East and Central Port Talbot, and the Afan Valley. The kit will provide a lifeline during an emergency, and we hope it will also teach children and young people more about the importance of first aid and acting quickly to save lives.”
